ABOUT OUR
BEERS

We brew and package about 50 different beers every year. You’ll find many of them on tap at your favorite Pittsburgh area bar or restaurant, or for sale in cans at your local grocery store, beer shop, or beer distributor.  But to get the biggest, freshest selection, find some deeper tracks, or perhaps fill a Growler, you should really come see us at our Brewpub in Larimer or Taproom in Mount Lebanon. Alternatively, you can place orders for pickup at our Brewpub via our on-line store.

With almost 19 years of beer making under our belts, we’ve settled on dividing our beers into three groups: YEAR ROUND BEERS, which are always on tap. SEASONAL BEERS which we brew once a year. And lastly ONE-OFFS. Beers that we brew just once - which since 2019, most notably includes our YOU ARE HERE series of Pittsburgh Neighborhood Beers, brewed for each of the 90 neighborhoods in Pittsburgh.

-YEAR ROUND BEERS-

BIG HOP AMERICAN ALE

Loads of Centennial and Cascade hops make this a classic American Ale, brewed to be nice and hoppy, but not especially bitter thanks to a generous amount of Munich Malt in the grain bill. It’s our flagship beer, and by far our most popular beer overall. Occasionally we tap a Nitro version!

5.8% ABV

Availability: Draft, Six Packs of 12oz cans, and Growler fills at our Brewpub and Taproom. Kegs through our wholesaler and directly from the Brewery.

HEFE WEIZEN

This traditional German-style wheat ale, known in Germany as a Hefeweizen, carries distinct banana and clove esters and crisp finish. Note: No bananas were harmed here. Those esters and flavors come from our particular Bavarian yeast strain. It’s a perfect intro beer for the craft beer for the newbie, or for someone looking to take a break from hoppier beers.

5.9% ABV

Availability: Draft, Six Packs of 12oz cans, and Growler fills at our Brewpub and Taproom. Kegs through our wholesaler and directly from the Brewery.

FAT GARY ENGLISH BROWN ALE

This deep brown ale is surprisingly light in body and low in alcohol. Dark malt character, light sweetness, and a subtle nuttiness makes for a beer that may surprise you at its versatility. As our beertenders say, it’s dark, but light! A perfect gateway into the darker, heavier beers in the craft beer world.

4.2% ABV

Availability: Draft, Six Packs of 12oz cans, and Growler fills at our Brewpub and Taproom. Kegs through our wholesaler and directly from the Brewery.

ALONG CAME A CIDER

Made from 100% Pennsylvania Apples from our GOOD FRIENDS at Kistaco Farms in Apollo, PA, an hour east of our brewery. We receive the pressed juice and from there turn it into hard cider via some good, old fashioned fermentation.  Along Came a Cider is lab-certified Gluten Free and is light, effervescent, and dry, meaning all of the residual sugars are fermented out, contributing to a crispness that we find super refreshing. Keep your eyes peeled for the occasional barrel-aged version!

6.5% ABV

Availability: Draft, Six Packs of 12oz cans, and Growler fills at our Brewpub and Taproom. Kegs through our wholesaler and directly from the Brewery.

EVERYDAY PILSNER

Everyday Pilsner is our idealized dream of what a go-to beer should be, and built for those times when you need a beer to just be a beer. Flavorful, crisp, and pretty perfect as an “everyday” beer. Everyday Pilsner was developed using our YOU ARE HERE series as a laboratory, testing several different Pilsner recipes and brewing processes to help us hone in on exactly what we wanted. Try it on our LUKR Side Pull tap as a standard draft, or go old school with a Mliko or “milk pour”!

4.4 % ABV

Availability: Draft, Six Packs of 12oz cans, and Growler fills at our Brewpub and Taproom. Kegs through our wholesaler and directly from the Brewery.

-SEASONALS-

BIGGER HOP DOUBLE IPA

The granddaddy of our hoppy beers, this Classic DIPA showcases hops in a big way with a high abv to boot. Made in the West Coast style, with a pilsner malt base that gives a light backdrop to a heavy hop charge of Amarillo and Simcoe hops. This beer bursts with all kinds of citrusy hop flavor goodness with a firm hop bite to boot… plus you can see THROUGH the beer!

8.6% ABV

Availability: January. Draft, Four Packs, and Growlers at our Brewpub and Taproom.

PARTLY CLAHDY NE IPA

While not our first “hazy beer,” Partly Clahdy is our original New England style IPA with a focus more on flavor and dry hop additions than on hop bitterness. Big flavors of herbal hoppiness, juicy orange, palette softness, and that eye-pleasing haziness. Inspired by those perpetually overcast Pittsburgh skies that we all know and tolerate, and a little nod to Joe DeNardo.

6.6% ABV

Availability: February. Draft, Four Packs, and Growlers at our Brewpub and Taproom.

GRATITUDE BARLEYWINE

We've been brewing our Gratitude Barleywine with the exact same recipe since our very first year, as an annual thanks to you, our GOOD BEER Fans, for supporting us. The biggest of our ales, Gratitude is brewed using two tons of malt and a stunning amount of hops in each batch. An assertive beer best sipped on, fresh barleywine is a wonderful blend of strong malt sweetness balanced by fresh, floral hop bitterness. As the beer ages, the hops fade away and deep, sweet, malt complexity emerges. Need help identifying a vintage bottle? CLICK HERE

11.2% ABV

Availability: February. Draft, Four Packs, Growlers at our Brewpub and Taproom.

BARREL AGED GRATITUDE BARLEYWINE

We’ve been releasing Barrel-Aged versions of our Gratitude Barleywine for almost a decade now, starting with the tenth anniversary release of Gratitude. As of 2023, we’ve used Bourbon, Rye, Scotch, and Rum barrels. Each brings its own characteristic and adds its own flare to the complex, malt flavors of our barleywine. As some fans say “Barleywine is Life,” and if these B.A. versions of Gratitude don’t exemplify that, we don’t know what does!

11.2% ABV

Availability: February. Draft, Four Packs, Growlers at our Brewpub and Taproom.

WHEAT HOP

Our “original haze brew” dating all the way back to the days of 2007, Wheat Hop is one of the signs that Spring has sprung (Witte being the other). Bursting with bright, peachy flavors on top of light, herbal hoppy notes with a soft mouthfeel thanks to the wheat, this beer is immensely drinkable and somewhat resembles a mild New England Pale Ale. Perfect if you’re enjoying some sunshine.

5.1% ABV

Availability: March. Draft, Four Packs, Growlers at our Brewpub and Taproom.

EAST END WITTE

A "Belgian White" wheat beer, gently spiced with coriander, orange peel, and lemongrass. Light bodied with expected hints of orange and lemon and no hop bitterness, this beer is great for new craft beer drinkers. A great chill out or cool down beer, some say it is the perfect lawn mower beer, but thankfully you can have this beer in hand while you watch Spring unfold, lawn mower or not!

5.1% ABV

Availability: March. Draft, Four Packs, Growlers at our Brewpub and Taproom.

PEDAL PALE ALE

An American Pale Ale, crisp and hoppy with light malt sweetness, grapefruity hop notes, and very mild bitterness (in spite of being hopped four times). Each Spring we kick off the release of this classic pale ale with our PEDAL PALE KEG RIDE, a charity event starting at our brewpub and consisting of a low speed group ride, following the first kegs of the year to a mystery tap spot somewhere around the city. And if you ride, the first beer's on us!

5.0% ABV

Availability: April. Draft, Four Packs, Growlers at our Brewpub and Taproom.

SHUCKS CREAM ALE

A recipe formerly known as C.R.E.A.M., and used as the base of a few YOU ARE HERE Neighborhood Beers such as the North Shore Vanilla Latte Cream Ale and the Spring Hill-City View Chili Cream Ale, this recipe has been around for quite some time and has earned a position as a seasonal release! Now titled Shucks, this Cream Ale is a true American style and uses flaked maize in the grist to bring about just a little bit of sweetness. Free of any actual dairy, lactose, or cream, you can expect an easy drinking beer perfect for those waning months of spring.

5.9% ABV

Availability: April. Draft, Four Packs, Growlers at our Brewpub and Taproom.

SEEDLESS WATERMELON GOSE

A long time favorite of ours! 800lbs of real live, certified organic watermelons are juiced to make this very real, very refreshing, very seedless Gose (Say it with us now... "Gó-suh"). Bright and tart up front with a sweet watermelon finish and just a hint of salt, this German style kettle sour is far from candy-like, which we think is a very good thing. Coming in at a nice, low abv providing a “few beer allowance” ideal for a beer like this. Some say it is so refreshing, you may sweat in reverse when drinking it!

4.1% ABV

Availability: May. Draft, Four Packs, Growlers at our Brewpub and Taproom.

GREEN GIANT

First brewed over a decade ago when Citra hops were considered only good as a complimentary hop. It was well worth the risk though as Green Giant is one of our most-anticipated seasonal releases of the warmer months. This All Citra IPA brings a slightly higher abv to bear with first wort and late addition hopping keep the bitterness down and the hop flavor up front where it belongs. Amber in color with snappy, hop citrus notes, this is a very pleasing beer with no bells or whistles.

7.2% ABV

Availability: June. Draft, Four Packs, Growlers at our Brewpub and Taproom.

CHANCE A'SHARS PALE ALE

The lightest of our yinzer-weather trio, Chance A’Shahrs (not to be confused with Sahrs) is our original, easy drinking NE Pale Ale. It may be the lowest abv of the hazy trio, but it’s no slouch in the flavor department! The gentle, hoppy flavors are layered into a fluffy body, achieving wonderful balance. A great introductory hazy beer, there’s a good chance veteran haze heads will like it to!

5.5%

Availability: July. Draft, Four Packs, Growlers at our Brewpub and Taproom.

KÖLSCH

A well-loved style hailing from Cologne (Köln) Germany, Kölsch is a top-fermented AND lager conditioned…ale! A little confusing, but very delicious. With delicate grain and hop flavors layered into an incredibly clean, crisp, and balanced beer that was originally brewed to stem the tide of pale, bottom-fermented lagers. Expect a refreshing, dry finish to this shining, golden ale.

5.4% ABV

Availability: July. Draft, Four Packs, Growlers at our Brewpub and Taproom.

ALMOST FAMOUS PICKLE BEER

This seasonal collaboration with our GOOD FRIENDS at Primanti Bros. is one of our fastest selling beers we make all year. Technically, Almost Famous Pickle Beer is a Cucumber Gose Ale, which means it’s a kettle-soured Gose fermented on the cold-pressed juice of 800lbs of fresh cucumbers. We also dose this brew with loads of pickling spices - like black pepper, coriander, dill (of course), lemon juice, and sea salt, to create a one-of-a-kind drinking experience.

4.1% ABV

Availability: July/August (right around Picklesburgh). Draft, Four Packs, Growlers at our Brewpub and Taproom.

BIG HOP HARVEST

There’s a small window in August where we can get fresh-picked, undried, LOCALLY grown hops to brew with. These “wet hops” provide a truly unique flavor, aroma, and sense of hoppy freshness that cannot be replicated. Of all our seasonal beers, this one is a TRUE SEASONAL BEER in every sense, and one that wonderfully embodies the changing of the seasons. Expect a citrusy, nuanced hoppy profile over a light, malt body. This is one of the few recipes that has changed the most over the years, thanks to the increasingly availability of locally grown hops.

ABV: 6.9%

Availability: August. Draft, Four Packs, Growlers at our Brewpub and Taproom.

BRITSBURGH ALE

The flagship beer for Pittsburgh's Britsburgh festival, a week long celebration of all things British in Pittsburgh taking place every September and featuring a cask tapping in honor of Tony Knipling to kick-off the release. Turns out, however, we can’t say much about the beer itself since we make a different style every year. But we can say that it is always a classic English style of beer that we go to great lengths to produce - even changing our water chemistry to match England’s. Examples of past years include an Old Ale, English Mild, and London Porter.

ABV: Varies. Come see when it's done!

Availability: September. Draft, Four Packs, Growlers at our Brewpub and Taproom.

OKTOBERFEST

Our version of Festbier and brewed slightly differently every year. For 2023, we went a bit askew from the traditional ingredients of Festbier (sorry, Reinheitsgebot) and added a bit of rye to the grist, giving that year’s version a slightly darker hue and subtle, but smooth grain spice that moved the beer closer to being a liquid cookie while remaining a crisp, drinkable lager. Prost!

5.6% ABV

Availability: September. Draft, Four Packs, Growlers at our Brewpub and Taproom.

BARREL AGED NUNKIN ALE

Born from one of our longest standing partnerships, B.A. Nunkin couldn’t happen without the help of Farmer Notreal. Every fall, Farmer Notreal rides his tractor down from Fantasy Farms to EEBC and delivers us a fresh batch of NUNKINS, providing perfect flavor and ripeness year after year. From there, we brew a beer dosed with said Nunkins and let it rest in bourbon barrels. Look for strong fall spice flavors and a warming booziness that is only a touch sweet. No pumpkins were harmed in the making of this beer… because it doesn’t contain any!

7.9% ABV

Availability: September. Draft, Four Packs, Growlers at our Brewpub and Taproom.

BLACK STRAP STOUT

One of our earliest beers brewed here at EEBC! Black Strap is an American Stout brewed with (you guessed it) Black Strap Molasses and Brown Sugar - robust and roasty with notes of dark chocolate, and black coffee. Extremely dark, with the roasty bitterness balanced by a smidge of sweetness, and a modest American hop flavor. Occasionally put on our Nitro tap for extra smooth enjoyment.

6.2% ABV

Availability: October. Draft, Four Packs, Growlers at our Brewpub and Taproom.

SNOW MELT WINTER ALE

One of our original brews and a favorite around the brewery. A rich, roasty, mahogany-hued winter ale, brewed with Simcoe and Nugget hops that bring hoppy, pine notes to the finish… sort of like a hoppy brown ale. Best used for frost removal, holiday toasting, and guaranteed to clear the fog off your glasses. Occasionally found on our Nitro tap.

7.0% ABV

Availability: November. Draft, Four Packs, Growlers at our Brewpub and Taproom.

CAUTION SLIPPY NE DIPA

The Pittsburghese weather puns continue with the heftiest of our hazy weather trio - Caution Slippy, our New England style Double IPA. More juice, less bitter, tastes great! Hiding its abv quite well, this beer brings big, dank flavors to the forefront to help wash away those winter chills... just be careful you don’t get too slippy yourself! Our final seasonal release of the calendar year.

8.2% ABV

Availability: December. Draft, Four Packs, Growlers at our Brewpub and Taproom.

-OCCASIONALS-

BLACK HOP IPA

If you marry dark malt roastiness that’s just a notch or two below stout and the hoppiness of a classic IPA, well then you’ve got Black Hop. Our first and only Black IPA, it comes around every so often, but on its own time. The hops present in a fresh ever-green piney sort of way, that, combined with the roasty and chocolatey notes of the malt make for an amazing cool weather beer with ample versatility. Rumor has it, it makes stout lovers enjoy IPAs and IPA lovers enjoy stouts. Who’d have thought?

6.9% ABV

Availability: Draft, Four Packs, Growlers.

SMOKESTACK HERITAGE PORTER

One of the deeper cuts in our catalogue, we first released Smokestack when Allegheny County imposed its smoking ban, and the beer was only available in bottles. Now, many years later, we package this dark, smoky porter in four packs like the rest of our beers and release it every so often. Invoking the essence of campfire (and some would say bacon!) This beer isn’t too hefty, but it’s definitely smoky, and a real treat when we have it on nitro, and like all smoked beers, it’s great with food.

6.5% ABV

Availability: Draft, Four Packs, Growlers.

STEEL CUT OATMEAL STOUT

Our main oatmeal stout, which makes its appearance every couple of years is light on alcohol and well balanced on oat in the grist. The oat helps with the silky mouthfeel that makes this beer even easier to drink, especially when on nitro. While still presenting roasty character and just a bit of sweetness, it’s clear why we don’t leave this beer in the vault forever!

5.5% ABV

Availability: Draft, Four Packs, Growlers.

FATTER GARY IMPERIAL BROWN ALE

The souped-up version of our Year Round, English Brown Ale that we bring around now and again. This Imperial Brown Ale features elevated levels of brown malt roastiness, firm chocolate notes, and a smidge of bitterness to balance out the inherent sweetness. It’s really a late, autumn treat that goes super well with the start of the holiday season and the hefty meals that come with it… and yeah, we often tuck some of this beer into various whiskey barrels for a mid-winter turnaround to keep the fun going.

7.1% ABV

Availability: Draft, Four Packs, Growlers.

-YOU ARE HERE & ONE OFF BEERS-

Our final category of beer releases can be broken up into three parts: The You Are Here Neighborhood series of beers, a variety of collaboration brews, and lastly, beers that are made just once without some kind of external association, whether it is tied to an occasion, or tied to a specific time, such as our mixed fermentation and/or barrel-aged beers.

For our other One-Off beers, we’ve picked a few we’ve released in 2022, but it is by no means a comprehensive list! Being in operation since 2004 means we’ve made quite a few One-Off beers.

MIGHT

A collaboration beer with the local chapter of the Pink Boots Society, Might was also a fundraiser! Brewed using the Pink Boots Hop Blend, supplied by Yakima Chief Hops and selected and vetted by Pink Boots members throughout the United States. This classic English Pale Ale had a crackery, biscuity malt based that melded wonderfully with the floral hop presence from the Pink Boots Blend. Both our purchase of the hop blend and the sales of this beer raised funds for the local and national Pink boots organization. Pink Boots supports women and/or non-binary individuals in the fermented beverage industry.

5.8% ABV

Availability: Released April 2022. No longer available.

MORNINGSIDE

An example of one of our YOU ARE HERE Neighborhood beers (the 64th to be exact), Morningside was a Maibock, aka “Helles Bock” that lagered in our tanks for a release in May… ya know, because “Mai” means “May” in German! This traditional, strong, malty, Bavarian lager was grainy-sweet, but not cloying, with a moderately-dry finish that kept things balanced. Released over at Bulldog Pub during the “Mini Made in Morningside” festival!

7.0% ABV

Availability: Released May 2022. No longer available.

LIKE MINDS

Great minds think alike, so we reckoned they drank alike too! Brewed with our GOOD FRIENDS of Elk Creek Cafe + Aleworks, this beer lived somewhere in the nitpicky, nuanced arena of IPLs, Cold IPAs, and such, so we decided to keep it simple and call it what it was: IT WAS A HOPPY LAGER PEOPLE. Hopped with Hallertau Blanc and Mandarina Bavaria hops at a level you’d expect from an IPA, but with the light, crisp malt base you’d expect from a lager.

5.8% ABV

Availability: Released September 2022. No longer available.
