Gratitude Barleywine
A limited edition Barleywine Style Ale, brewed in November in the American tradition and hand packaged to specially commemorate the anniversary of the brewery, and to say THANKS to all of our loyal supporters. Hand filled, labeled, signed, and numbered. Label stock is hand-cut and hand printed at either Pittsburgh's Artist's Image Resource - A.I.R., on the North Side, or by Alisa at Third Termite Press (412-682-2338), depending upon the vintage. Gratitude has been voted the Top Pick every year for the the last five years, at Kelly's "Hell With The Lid Off" barleywine festival, held in Mid February. Returning every year in bottle conditioned form, and an occasional keg here and there around town by special arrangement. Older vintages are only available at the brewery on Gratitude Release Day. 2005 Red Wax: Only 600 bottles produced. Limited re-release in December 06 at the brewery (limit 2 per visit). 2006 Orange Wax: Packaged 1,300 bottles this year, our first double-batch of Gratitude! Released February 2007 - with no purchase limits. 2007 Yellow Wax: XXX Bottles packaged, and for reasons I have since repressed from memory, was not released until August of 2008, according to this vintage East End Brewing web page: http://www.eastendbrewing.com/node/534 Apparently I also tortured you with Christmas music at the release. 2008 Green Wax: A difficult year for Gratitude. The original 1400 labeled bottles could not be sold due to a quality issue with the beer... a protein burn in the kettle, that did not come through in our initial tastings. We brewed a single replacement batch of just 800 bottles, and released it with dark purple ink on the label instead of black, just so we could tell the difference. Release Day particulars are here: http://www.eastendbrewing.com/node/714 2009 Blue Wax: We released this in March of 2010, along with our 5th Anniversary Wooden Nickel Saison: http://www.eastendbrewing.com/node/825 2010 Indigo Wax: I'm not sure I know the difference between Blue and Indigo, but this one has an Indigo Bunting on the label, and the Blue has a Blue Bird, so maybe that helps? 2011 Violet Wax: Previous year's photos here.
